John has been practically living in the shop for the last two weeks. It is almost like a real
job – he leaves the house for the shop about 8-8:30AM, walks back to the house from the shop about 11:55AM for lunch, and leaves for the shop about 12:30 or 1PM and finally returning about 4PM.
Since our house is so tiny, every square foot is important and valuable (like it used to be when we lived on the boat for a few years) and our mission is trying to get the considerable stuff jammed into the house organized. So it is natural that an appropriate first woodworking project was a cabinet with nine drawers with a four foot tall bookcase sitting on top. Since we don’t use one of the bedroom closets for storing clothes (only junk – I mean stuff), we planned on converting the space to useful and efficient storage. John spent a day and a half designing and planning the project, about two weeks building it, and about four hours installing it.
The cabinets and bookcase look great, are extremely functional, and were completely filled with other stuff in a matter of two hours. Must be time to convert another closet…
(For those of you who would like technical details about the project, a complete writeup can be found here.)
