February Fling

We met up with some RV buddies at Balmorhea State Park in West Texas on Valentine’s Day. Hadn’t seen them since the iRV2 Rally in Branson during the summer, so had a nice reunion with Bill, Marie, and their little dog, Missy!Next we headed to Davis Mountains State Park and spent a few nights. We took the scenic drive around the mountains in blowing snow, sleet, and rain! I must say that was an interesting site! John and Jane visited the Davis Mountains Baptist Church and were even invited to lunch afterwards by the pastor and his family! What a wonderful fellowship we had. Bill and Marie attended the Catholic Church in Ft. Davis.

“The Window” at Big Bend National Park

We pray that all who read this have a wonderful spring and celebration of Easter, giving thanks and praise to our risen Savior, Jesus Christ! Hallelujah!Making the trip to Terlingua so we could visit Big Bend National Park was a new experience for us. Even though Jane is a native Texan, she had never been there nor had she and John ever visited there during the twelve years they lived in Texas after they were married….so finally the time was ripe! The Park was relatively a short drive in the Jeep from Terlingua. There is only one campground in the Park that is large enough for our rig. We made trips into the Park four days and saw some marvelous sights, had a few really great hikes (one really challenged my muscles!), and one day did a drive along the “River Road” which requires high clearance vehicles out to the site of a former mercury mine. We managed to stay busy, indeed!

Fortunately, the skies were only somewhat overcast, so we were able to see the eclipse of the moon! With almost no lights in the small settlement of Terlingua, we had a really dark sky for good viewing even with some cloud cover.  Please visit our on-line picture gallery for several pages of our pictures!

As we said good-bye to Big Bend, John and I decided that since we were fairly close to these Parks, we should spend more time going to them, so we purchased passes…now to USE them. It’s marvelous seeing more of God’s creation…and the lovely paintings of the sunrises and sunsets He gives us!

We pray that all who read this have a wonderful spring and celebration of Easter, giving thanks and praise to our risen Savior, Jesus Christ! Hallelujah!
