We’re home – whoopee! We are sorry about no updates for over a month, hope this doesn’t negatively impact our next performance report It was a summer of fun, family and friends while we traveled for thousands of miles through about 16 different states. Please click on the map for a detailed presentation of where we went and where we stayed.
Some special highlights of our trip were:
- Visiting with my nephews Erik and Jason, wives Karen and Christine and dozens of children (ok – not dozens but quite a few…) that we haven’t seen in over a year and a half
- Visiting with the Topleys in Las Cruces
- Meeting our RV (and from boating days) friends Bob & Judy at Grayson Highlands State Park and biking the 14 miles down the Virginia Creeper Trail
- Touring the Amish Country in and around Berlin and Mt Eaton, Ohio. The countryside was like a Norman Rockwell painting – nothing was out of place and every field and yard looked like it was recently prepared for a “Garden Beautiful” show
- Spending July 4th holiday (and quite a few days before and after) at the very lovely Fisherman’s Corner Recreation Area (Army Corp of Engineer’s park) right on the Mississippi River
- Taking a self-guided tour of the Gettysburg battlegrounds where thousands of Americans died during the Civil War
- Finally getting long-standing problems on the coach repaired. We had all four of our hydraulic leveling jacks replaced to cure a problem of slow retraction, and we had a complete air conditioning & heat pump transplant to hopefully cure an intermittent problem
- We never liked our driver’s and passenger’s chairs in the coach, so while we were in Elkhart, we ordered new ones. Wow are they nice!
- Returning home!
The coach and the Jeep did really well and we had no significant problems that were show stoppers. We broke our large awning on the coach, but we now have a new one. The Jeep developed a problem, but it still ran mostly OK. Since it had been a while since we drove in the eastern part of our country, we forgot how crowded and busy the cities and highways are. We also paid out more money in road tolls than ever before – one day we parted with almost $30!!
After all of this excitement and the weariness of many miles traveled, we started getting anxious about the first part of September to head home. It was fantastic to now have our place in the country in which to return. We will head out in a couple of weeks for Phoenix and then Tucson. In Phoenix we will get a major routine coach chassis maintenance performed and in Tucson we will attend our second Datastorm Rally; after that trip we will spend the winter in and around our little ranch.
Thanks for your attention and we will report back in from Arizona!
